Hello!! My name is Michael Keith (He-Him-His). I earned my undergrad degree in Psychology from Temple University. I have since returned to Temple to as a student in Master of Social Work program. I have been a lifetime resident of Philadelphia considered the city of brotherly/sisterly love. My goal in my career is to be an open-minded and non-judgmental sounding board for people who are looking to be seen and heard in a safe, calming and therapeutic space.
I have close to 20 years professional and volunteer experience in the mental/behavioral health field – working with a variety of populations. I have worked in behavioral/cognitive health day programs, a psychiatric hospital, behavioral/developmental health organizations, youth organizations, and have worked in both affluent and impoverished communities.
I have volunteered as a Peer Counsellor for the William Way Community Center for 15 years and it has been a wonderful and joyful experience. I am very passionate in working in the mental health field especially regarding working within the LGBTQ+ community and eventually honing my focus on working with the elderly LGBTQ+ population. As a gay man I am looking to increase the representation within the therapeutic/social work field. My task is to make sure our LGBT family has a place to go to be seen, heard, respected and understood without bias and/or judgment. A place where a person can truly feel safe to share their emotional challenges and concerns with someone who has lived the LGBTQ experience. While I have a passion for these particular communities, I am open to helping all different populations that need assistance and guidance.
